Anxiety can Trigger Clumsiness
It’s not just an exaggerated scene in the movies showing a nervous guy wreaking havoc in everything he touches trying to impress his lady love. His extreme clumsiness is the result of his anxiety.
It is perfectly normal to be clumsy at times. Just because you dropped something or bumped into things does not mean you’re suffering from anxiety. In the same manner, it’s alright to feel anxious at times, especially in the face of real danger. The body prepares itself in anticipation of the physical activity required for fighting or fleeing from the object of anxiety.
Anxiety as the Culprit for Clumsiness
Being clumsy is not inherently wrong. What you need to worry about is anxiety because it can amplify clumsiness to cause embarrassment and worry. It can also affect your daily life in some ways. However, being clumsy is not necessarily a symptom of anxiety. Nothing specific has been identified to link anxiety as the cause of clumsiness, but some anxiety symptoms are believed to make clumsiness possible.
Anxiety afflicts approximately 18 percent of the general population, with more women suffering from it than men. It is caused by a combination of factors, including psychological trauma and stressful life events. If you have sense of fear or irrational feeling for unseen catastrophe, you’re most likely a person with anxiety. You’ll obviously have heart palpitations, trembling hands, and “butterflies in the stomach.” These anxiety symptoms can compromise your effectiveness, lessen your ability to concentrate, and cause poor coordination of movements. All these may characterize you as a “clumsy” person.
The Help You Need to Overcome Clumsiness
Getting enough information on what to do about your clumsiness may be your best weapon. In the absence of preventive measures, what you can do is to use some strategies that can help reduce clumsiness. Exercising can be beneficial for coordination, while deep breathing is a relaxation technique that can keep the symptoms of anxiety at bay.
