Adults with Medicaid Don’t Need a DR Referral for Counseling
Enormous progress has happened in the field of treating and supporting individuals with emotional psychological or behavioral issues. Along with this, the number of managed-care health insurance plans aiming to provide patients with effective medication and treatment has been noted to increase in recent years.
Barriers to Getting Psychological Care and Benefits
There are times when the treatment you need cannot be provided by your primary care provider. You know that only a certified psychiatrist or counselor can provide the remedy so getting the services of professionals offering specialty treatment would be a logical decision. But, before you can get access to the treatment and care, a referral is often required.
Even with a managed-care health insurance plan, trying to get the referral to psychology/counselor/therapist specialists can be disheartening. In some cases, your PCP may be pressured by the insurance company to issue a referral to another care provider that does not have the expertise to help you in your current condition. The patchwork involved in getting health care services, especially for emotional/behavioral/ psychological issues, often become one of the blocking factors in getting help.
Receiving Government Psychological Health Aid (Counseling/Therapy)
Fortunately, the state governments implements the Medicaid program to offset the costs of health care for eligible individuals. As a major state government aid program, Medicaid underwrites the costs of health care for low-income persons and disabled individuals, including adults who have psychological/emotional/behavioral needs.
The state also authorizes MCO’s, like Alliance Behavioral Healthcare and Sandhills to assist eligible Medicaid beneficiaries with mild to serious or recurring psychological/emotional/behavioral health problems in getting the behavioral health services they require.
All Medicaid adults are allowed 8 “Unmanaged” sessions per calendar year. Before those sessions are used up, we at CCS will do the paperwork needed so that your Medicaid MCO will authorize as many sessions that you need to finish your treatment. The 8 sessions are the beginning, and not an “end” if you need more sessions. We are happy to do this for you! We want you to feel better!
Help is Just a Phone Call Away
With the availability of resources to obtain treatment WITHOUT having to visit your primary care physician, help is not remote anymore. If you’re an adult aged 22 years old or older who needs counseling, all there is to do is to call Carolina Counseling Services to request an appointment. CCS will get authorizations needed from NC Alliance or Sandhills Medicaid to help you or a loved one regain life beyond any psychological disorder.
