Anxiety is a natural, human emotion that we all experience from time to time. This feeling is getting a lot of attention these days, and for good reason, everyone feels it. Like most things having to do with mental health and mental wellness, I’m glad that it’s part of the conversation. The more you know about anxiety the sooner you can do something about it if it’s impacting how you live your life.

Not All Anxiety is Clinical

What I mean by this is that not all anxiety is an anxiety disorder. You can even experience symptoms of an anxiety disorder without actually having a diagnosable condition. The key is taking an honest look at how it impacts your life.

For some, anxiety is uncomfortable though it spurs them to keep moving forward and even aids them in being productive. For others, anxiety can be paralyzing and keeps them from doing the things they want and need to do. If anxiety is making you feel stuck or impacting  your life in a negative way you may be dealing with an anxiety disorder.

What Are The Symptoms

Symptoms of anxiety disorder can vary as there are more than a few. Each diagnosis is unique, however, they share some common symptoms such as;

  • Excessive worry
  • Feeling on edge
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Racing thoughts

If any of these symptoms sounds familiar, and they are impacting how you function, consulting with a licensed therapist or psychiatric professional can truly help.

Anxiety is NOT Inevitable

While anxiety is a “normal” emotion it is NOT inevitable and it is not something you just have to learn to deal with. Anxiety can be overwhelming and paralyzing, however, it is treatable. You can feel better and you deserve to.

There are many effective skills you can learn to decrease the frequency and intensity of your anxiety. Therapy can be a wonderful way to learn skills that truly work and can help you feel in control again. Psychiatric medication management is a wonderful option for many. Finding what works for you is the most important. You don’t have to suffer in silence.

It can be hard to face your anxiety. It can be hard to avoid anxiety. Choose your hard, my fellow humans. And don’t forget, therapy can help.
