Emotional Overwhelm: Don’t Underestimate It
Extreme sadness, constant anger, fear, extreme anxiety, depression, outbursts, burnout and even physical pains – these are just a few of the possible problems you’ll be faced with if you will continue to ignore your “emotional overwhelm”. It can blunt your ability to act and think clearly – qualities required to perform work in a functional manner. “Overwhelm” can be caused by your inability to manage life stresses or by having too many things going on all at once. If you are under any of these situations, you may benefit from a therapist to help you process everything that’s going on with you.
People are Not Made the Same Way
The causes of the emotional overwhelm and one’s ability to manage stress varies from individual to individual. The way you react to stressors depends on your threshold level and abilities to manage stress. For instance, an argument with a close pal might be a small stressor for you, but it can be a major life-altering event to an introvert who has very few friends.
Your personal circumstances – kinds of friends and family, interests and hobbies, and nature of job, among others – may also contribute to stress or protect you from it. This is why there are people who are resilient and who easily bounce back after a major traumatic episode in their lives, and there are others who don’t.
The Emotional Overwhelm Candidate
