BCBS and Counseling Working Together for Your Recovery
Counseling as a means of coping with distress has grown in effectiveness and popularity in recent years. Stigmas surrounding counseling have dramatically decreased allowing individuals to freely seek counseling to address upsetting symptoms or even major life changes such as death, divorce, or chronic illness. Many clients engage in therapy to address what some may view as daily stressors, like jobs and relationships, which may create an imbalance in one’s life and affect both their psychological and physical health.
How Counseling Helps
There can be many reasons and various motivations for pursuing counseling. Regardless of the motivator, it can take courage and dedication to go through therapy. This may be why finding the right therapist can be the key to achieving recovery, improving relationships, promoting self-empowerment, and/or reducing emotional suffering. While it may allow you to feel better when you talk to and feel listened to by a supportive person, you may need the expert guidance of a therapist to truly find the healing you deserve.
Therapists are professionally-trained and can help you meet your own personal goals and overcome the daily emotional challenges you are faced with. Working with a therapist can help you dig at the root of your concerns and identify the best ways to make positive changes in your life. Therapy can provide long-lasting benefits to you and even possibly those around you.
Counseling and Insurance
Apart from the stigma associated with counseling, some people shy away due to concerns related to expenses. If you have decided to see a therapist, one of the initial questions you may ask is whether or not your insurance is accepted. A lot can depend on what type of insurance policy you hold. Many insurance companies have limited coverage and some types of mental health professionals, such as therapists or counselors, may not be included. Oftentimes, a referral from your primary care provider may be required.
This may not be the case if you are a Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) health insurance beneficiary. With BCBS, you can easily receive the type of counseling service you need. Unlike other insurance agencies with restrictive policies on health providers, BCBS allows most licensed counselors, therapists and psychologists in its network. Policies such as these allow you access to a professional of your choice without having to worry about getting a doctor’s referral for counseling.
